Mathani Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-04

Mathani keeps your memorization record on your phone. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics of any kind.

The short version

Mathani keeps your memorization record on your phone. There is no account to create and no server that holds your data by default.

Nothing leaves the device unless you switch something on: backup to a cloud account you already own, a circle you join with friends, or recitation audio you play.

There is no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.

What is stored, and where

What you have memorized, how solid you said it is, every review you have logged, the mistakes you pinned, your goals and your reminders. All of it is written to this app’s private storage on your phone.

Uninstalling the app deletes it. That is why backup exists.

Backup

If you connect Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or Dropbox, Mathani writes a copy of your record to that account on the cadence you choose. It is your account and your file; nobody else can read it, and Mathani cannot see anything else in your storage.

Mathani asks for the narrowest permission each provider offers — access limited to the files this app itself created.

You can disconnect at any time. Your existing copies stay where they are, under your control, and you can delete them yourself.

Google user data, and Google’s Limited Use rules

Mathani asks for one Google permission, and only when you connect Google Drive for backup. It is the drive.file scope, which reaches only the files Mathani itself created. It cannot see, list or open any other file in your Drive.

Mathani uses that permission to write your backup file, to list and tidy the backups it has already written, and to read one back when you ask to restore. It does nothing else with it.

Mathani’s use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Your backup goes straight from your phone to your Drive and is never passed to anyone else. It is never used for advertising, never sold, never used to build a profile of you and never read by a person. The token that keeps the connection working is stored in secure storage on your phone.

Circles

A circle is a group of friends running the same programme. Joining one publishes a small summary: how many days you revised this week, how many weeks you have kept it up, and how much you have memorized since the circle began.

That summary is all that is shared. Your mistakes, your trouble spots, which passages you are weak on and your full memorization record never leave your phone.

The service holding a circle runs on Cloudflare. If you never join a circle, nothing is ever sent to it.

Leaving a circle removes your summary from it.

Recitation audio

Playing or downloading recitation fetches audio files from EveryAyah, a public archive. That request necessarily tells them which ayah was asked for and the network address it came from.

Mathani sends nothing else with it — no identifier, no account, nothing about what you have memorized.

The Qur’an text

The Arabic text ships inside the app and is never fetched, so reading the muṣḥaf tells nobody anything.

Children

Mathani collects nothing about anyone, of any age. It is safe for a child to use, and a parent can see everything it holds by opening the app.

Changes

This policy lives inside the app, so the copy you are reading is the one that shipped with the version you have installed. If a future version sends something somewhere new, it says so here first.
